Domènech pastry shop

History

Our history goes back to the mid-twentieth century, specifically to 1942, when Ferriol Domènech and Teresa Roqué inaugurated the pastry shop at number 13 of Carrer de Sant Antoni de Sant Joan les Fonts, coinciding with the celebration of the town's main festival that used to take place on the first Sunday of August.

Previously, there had already been an old "Domènech Pastry Shop" in the Plaza Mayor in Olot (next to Café Europa) belonging to Camil and Josep Domènech, Ferriol's uncle and cousin, respectively.

As a young man, Ferriol had spent several years learning the trade of pastry chef; first in Can Batlle in Torroella de Montgrí and then in several pastry shops in Girona and Barcelona. Finally, after learning time, Ferriol returned to Olot. After returning from the war, he married Teresina with whom he had three children; Pepita, Salvador and Joaquim.

During the post-war period, in 1942 he decided to establish his own business, already in the place where it is currently located. Then, over time, he was forged in his craft. In 1960 he won the silver medal at the "International Confectionery Exhibition" in Madrid and, later, in 1964, he was also awarded the "Diploma of Honor" of the IV National Contest, framed in the "X Congreso Internacional de Pastelería".

After a few years, when his children were older, he was the second of the three brothers, Salvador, who after training in several pastry shops like his father, decided to continue with the family business. With him and his wife, came the consolidation of the company that came to have three establishments, two of them in Sant Joan les Fonts and another in Olot.

Salvador and his wife (our parents) have been fighting over the years to keep the business alive and to be able to face the growing and varied offer that, inevitably and increasingly, has been reaching on all sides and through all channels. Fortunately, they have achieved this thanks to their patience, perseverance and fighting spirit.

It is currently us, the third generation, who heads the obstacle course. Trained in very different disciplines but returned home, we have learned mainly at home, at home and from home. Always being able to count on the support of the family, we continue working with the aim of maintaining ourselves and improving in what is our "modus vivendi". We have tried to adapt to the times and changes in the sector but in the end, nothing is so different from how it was done before and nothing is so new as not being able to learn it. Let's move on!!

80th anniversary

This year we are very happy to have been able to celebrate our 80th anniversary and we wanted to do it by delighting our customers with a small taste of frozen truffles.

Who are we? What do we do?

Basically we are a family business dedicated to the trade of bread and pastry. We offer a traditional and artisan product but we are not closed to incorporating products that respond to new food trends and new consumer demands.

All our products are made in our workshop and by ourselves. We have always liked to work with quality products and as natural and local as possible.

We are committed to local and traditional commerce and we love the direct and personal treatment with the client.
